This dog breed originated from the ancient Asiatic mastiff, and in the Great Britain it was used for bull fighting. It is an excellent watchdog and guardian, which is good with children and other pets. Males tend to display leadership and should be socialized. These dogs are relatively small in appearance, but wide, with a broad massive head and shoulders, and a short tail. They weigh for about 53-55 pounds with an average height of about 12-16 inches. Shorter dogs of this breed are more prized when being shown. The skin on the skull forms dense folds, the coat is shorthaired, sheds very little, and requires occasional grooming and bathing.
