This breed is rather inactive and should be kept indoors. It is sucseptible to heat strokes and chill, cannot walk long distances and swim. Brachycephalic syndrome is common in this breed and some other breeds with shortened facial bones. This condition occurs due to an abnormal disproportion between normally short bones and excessively long overlying soft tissues. This disease is an inherited one that may not show any clinical signs until middle age. These dogs are very undemanding in grooming: regular brushing with a rough cloth and occasional bathing are enough.
